How do we explore the story of oranges in occupied Palestine? How can olive trees convey history through their fruit? How has the watermelon become a symbol of resistance against oppression? If fruit has evolved into a cultural identity and a token of resistance, can it also represent the story of a people persistently fighting for their rightful claim to their land and survival?

This narrative, steeped in faith, dreams, resistance, creativity, and beauty, is best conveyed through art. This is why al markhiya gallery has chosen to showcase this collection of profound works by renowned artists from across the Arab world. The participating artists are making an important humanitarian gesture by supporting the people in Gaza, who are currently experiencing extreme violence, displacement, and oppression by the unjust occupation. This exhibition also highlights al markhiya gallery's commitment to the vital role art plays in advancing human consciousness throughout history.

If the current situation in Palestine is marred by violence, and if the citizens are enduring relentless attacks, it is imperative we create an alternate narrative, one that speaks out against the atrocities faced by the people in Gaza and throughout the occupied territories. This collection of artworks by respected artists celebrates power of art as a form of resistance and a pathway to healing. The Sky Above Gaza… Imagine symbolizes the life we aspire to—a life where these artworks stand as everlasting symbols of resistance and serve as a vibrant portrayal of an enduring people, and a just cause.
