The fine art of sculpture emerged originally in Egypt. Indeed, ancient Egyptians were

masters in producing this highly symbolic and fascinating art form that revolves around

the past with the intention of keeping history alive. Today, sculpture in Egypt is still

being explored by many artists through several mediums, yet the noblest of these

remains bronze.

Al markhiya gallery, in collaboration with Zamalek Art Gallery, is proud to present a

collection of select pieces of bronze sculptures by successive generations of Egyptian

sculptors. Today’s contemporaries include a stellar array of the brightest names in

contemporary Egyptian sculpture, Ahmed Abdel Tawab, Ayman Saadawy, Kamal El

Feky and Mohamed Al Fayoumi. The forefathers of these exceptional sculptors include

the honorary figures of this exhibition: Mahmoud Mokhtar, a legend in the history

of Egypt who, through his sculpture, passionately expressed the nation’s dreams and

struggles; and Gamal El Sagini a giant in Egyptian art who introduced symbolism and

expressionism in sculpture in the 1950’s.

These artists are indeed a source of pride and inspiration. They enrich our lives by giving

us gifts that are sculpted with love, and masterfully made eternal through bronze.
