Mostafa Abdel Moity Born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1938, received his degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Alexandria (Department of Painting) in 1962. Moity was also one of the founding members of an important group of experimental artists from Alexandria in 1958 which included: Mahmoud Abdalla, Said Al Adwi and Moustfa Abdel Moity. In 1958 he also became a member of the World Congress of Contemporary Art in Venice, and was also elected Vice President that same year. Since the end of the 1950’s, Mostafa Abdel Moity has been cooperating with the greatest part of the exhibitions organised there.
After his graduation, Moity immediately began teaching as a faculty member at the Academy and has continued ever since. He received a scholarship from the Egyptian Government for studies on Upper Egypt and curated an exhibition which was held in Alexandria in 1966 and 1968 on the subject of the Aswan Big Dam.
Mostafa Abdel Moity’s early works touch on the figurative and the familiar, his style is always evolving. Employing his distinctive talent, Moity uses abstraction in his paintings and sculptures, incorporating bold lines with blocks of vibrant colour, underlined by his expert use of shade and light, which gives unique depth and meaning to his canvases. Circles and triangles are symbols Moity uses extensively, together with other geometric patterns, evoking notions of outer space and infinity in his compositions.
