al markhiya gallery welcomes an exciting group of master artists for this summer group presentation, featuring works by: Faraj Daha, Jamal Abdul Al Rahim, Mozahem Al Nasiri and Rashid Diab.
Qatari artist, Faraj Daham, has advanced through many different stages – starting in 1975 until today. Developing his practice, Daham has diversified the sources of his knowledge and technical skills, to refine his talent and study. Through these methods he has enriched his compositions, exploring the eloquence of the creative image, and strengthening his visual perception. Daham’s goal has always been to achieve a consensus of human-knowledge that elevates the reading of his artistic practise in sculpture and design.
Bahraini artist, Jamal Abdul Rahim references both the hot climate of his home country and his interest in artists, such as Joan Miró, through his use of colour. Rahim gains his inspiration from different sources; from Arabic calligraphy, the ancient stories of Gilgamesh and Greek mythology, to Pop Art portraiture. Rahim works with a bold visual language, steeped in his own personal history.
Doha based Iraqi artist, Mozahem Al Nasiri creates captivating configurations of color and light, mixing both realism and abstraction in his compositions. Many of Al Nasiri’s dynamic portraits are comprised of a bold color palette which delves beneath the surface realism of his subjects to encapsulate the sitter’s spirit.
Rashid Diab was born and raised on the banks of the Blue Nile in Sudan. The foundation of his work culminates from his deep interest in the elements of distance and form. He mixes Western, African and Islamic influences working to express cultural identity in a global context.
