Kareem Risan Mansour studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad where he earned a BA in 1988, then joined the army,

In his artistic practice he works with a variety of media, reflecting on his experiences of living through war and invasion, encapsulating the the time he was a solider during the Gulf war and witnessed the post-2003 US invasion to Iraq. Often Risan Mansour utilizes the book form, as illustrated in ‘Baghdad Burning’ (2003), a boxed book of twelve folios with collage, drawing and printing. He also studied media and photography at the Ontario Art Council in Toronto in 2010.

His works are held in public and private collections in the Middle East and elsewhere. He has had many solo exhibitions in the Middle East and multiple international group exhibitions, including ‘Dafatir: Contemporary Iraqi Book Art’, Texas, USA (2005) and ‘Baghdad–Paris, Artistes d’Irak’, Musée du Montparnasse, Paris (2005–6).

Kareem Risan Mansour currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
