Living: Architectures of Memory by Qatari artist Bouthayna Al Muftah debuts at Art Basel’s inaugural Doha edition in February 2026 at Doha Design District, presented by al markhiya gallery, Doha’s oldest privately owned gallery.

Anchored in a dynamic long-term partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and QC+, Art Basel Qatar will debut as a concisely curated showcase celebrating Qatar’s vibrant cultural landscape and the dynamic arts ecosystem of the MENA region. The inaugural edition of Art Basel Qatar will be held at M7, a creative hub in the heart of Doha, as well as at the Doha Design District in downtown Msheireb.
This installation transforms memory into an inhabitable space through a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Qatari thobe, hand-braided with natural materials and traditional ceramic jewellery designs. Conceived as a living archive that weaves together personal and collective histories, the work explores cultural preservation and invites audiences to reflect on their role in sustaining cultural identity.
